Next to Harley Earl, Bill Mitchell is GM’s most renowned design chief. Earl’s protégé and successor, Mitchell oversaw hundreds of car designs but he is best known for three: the iconic Corvette Stingray, the Euro-influenced Buick Riviera, and the twin personal luxury coupes Olds Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado. The Toro and Eldo were revolutionary not only in style but in engineering as well, sharing GM’s E-body platform—it’s very first to employ front-wheel-drive. The Olds came out first as a 1966 model, but it was followed a few months later by the ’67 Fleetwood Eldorado, which shared its chassis and basic shell, but the body panels were significantly reworked with longer front and rear overhangs, a more formal roofline (in place of the Toro’s fastback) and a stylish concave rear decklid. The signature engineering innovation was the front-drive Turbo-Hydramatic 425 transaxle—a TH400 split in half to drive the front wheels—but the Olds V-8 was swapped out for a Cadillac mill.

For its second model year the Eldo got more power thanks to the all-new 472 V-8. That engine’s mammoth 525lb-ft helped pull the Cadillac’s nearly 5000 pounds— 500 more than the Olds—and the previously optional disc brakes became standard equipment. There were some styling revisions to the ’68 as well: most notably the turn signals were moved from the lower front bumper to the fender leading edges, just outside the hideaway headlights. In back side marker lights were added, stylishly surrounded by the Cadillac crest. And the trailing edge of the hood was revised to include hidden wipers. Inside there was a brand new interior which featured a new padded dash and stylish rosewood trim to augment 12 different leather color options! Taken altogether these refinements inside and out represent the cleanest, most elegant version of Cadillac’s groundbreaking personal luxury coupe.

As part of its signature ONE24™ collection, Automodello’s model captures the regal luxury and innovative style of the Fleetwood Eldorado in its most appealing model year iteration. Every detail is captured in delicate precision, from the flowing lines of the new hood to the tasteful chromework of the wreath crests on the rear side markers. The driver’s window is presented in the down position to better view the sumptuous interior. The standard edition comes in a rich Silverpine Green Iridescent paint with a build of 168 units. Tribute editions of just 68 units each can be had in San Mateo Red Iridescent or Topaz Gold Firemist, while ultra-exclusive Homage Editions comprised of just 24 units each are offered in Grecian White and Sable Black.

An ideal compliment to Automodello's 1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport and 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V.
